Leica M4-P

  • When the Leica M4-P was announced in 1980, the viewfinder display was updated to include two new brightline frames: a 28mm frame, which appeared alongside the 90mm frame, and a 75mm frame, shown with the 50mm frame271.
  • The M4-P was the final model in the complex M4 range. Introduced in 1981, it closely resembled the M4-2 but featured additional framelines for 28mm and 75mm lenses. It is generally regarded as more reliable than the M4-2 and tends to have a slightly higher resale value. Interestingly, the last thousand M4-P cameras were produced in Wetzlar, with serial numbers ranging from 1691951 to 1692950. However, some critics argued that the added frameline functions made the M4-P more complicated and less user-friendly. The M4-P is also compatible with a motor drive, similar to the M4-2, but unlike the original M4. While this feature was more relevant during its professional use, it is less significant today311.
  • The M4-P is the first camera to feature the 28/90, 50/75, and 35/135 frame lines. All models, except for the last few, were produced in Canada341.
  • Leica M4-P was introduced in1980 and was discontinued in 1987. Had a height of 77mm, length of 138mm and width of 36mm. Viewfinder magnification is 0.72x and rangefinder base length is 48.0mm. Weight is 545g191.
